Kyosho Gearing Cheat Sheet

Notes on Springs. This is my old list with the new 1.6 diameter coil Black, Brown, and Navy Blue added. For myself, here is how I simplify my Spring choices:

First the springs I carry, to keep it reasonably simple are the ones highlighted in the chart. (They are also the  springs I carry for sale on my website for that purpose.)

Front most common:

Black 72 - Medium to higher grip bumpy or smooth where you don't want such a quick rebound

Red 81 - Lower to medium grip, bumpy or smooth paired with 81 purple in the rear. (Slightly heavier in front for a preferred balance.)

Dk Blue 70 - Higher grip when you need more support than black 72 deeper in the travel.

Brown 72 or Navy Blue 72 on lower to medium grip when you want less responsiveness out of the front.

Rear Most Common:

Black 86 - Medium to higher grip bumpy or smooth where you don't want such a quick rebound. Mostly always paired with 72 black front or 72 brown (if you wanted more steering)

Lt. Purple 81 - Lower to medium grip, bumpy, a little more responsive than the 1.6 coil springs but nice through the bumps, loamy type tracks.

Brown 86 - Lower to medium grip when the black feels too stiff and you want something a little less responsive than the 1.5mm coil springs.

Brown 72 - Front spring on the rear for more support than the Black 86. Some like the front spring on the rear for more corner speed and support. For higher grip smoother tracks generally.
